What Can't It Do?

The WinSCP U3 package has some limitations comparing to full product.

Obtaining WinSCP U3 Package

The easiest way to install WinSCP U3 package is to use Download programs function of your U3 launchpad and locate the WinSCP U3 package in Internet or Utilities category.

You can also directly download executable WinSCP U3 package from U3 Software Central.

Integration with PuTTY for U3

WinSCP U3 package is preconfigured to use PuTTY for U3 for Open in PuTTY command. It has PuTTY path preconfigured to temporary folder, where U3 drive extracts the PuTTY for U3. As the extraction happens on the first execution, the Open in PuTTY command would not work until you execute PuTTY at least once manually from U3 Launchpad.

Localizing WinSCP for U3

WinSCP U3 package does not include localizations by itself yet. They can be included manually as follows:

  • Install WinSCP on your U3 drive.
  • Locate WinSCP U3 package winscpXXX.u3p on your U3 drive. It is in directory \System\Apps\48b341d1-d411-4b5a-a82c-f3b5d65602fc. Note that \System directory is hidden.
  • U3P format is ZIP file with special structure.
  • Extract contents of the U3P file to temporary directory of your choice (you may need to rename the U3P file to .zip before).
  • Store your translation file to subfolder Host.
  • Archive the contents of temporary directory (including the translation) back into winscpXXX.u3p.
  • Store the U3P file back to its original location on your U3 drive.
  • Eject U3 drive.
  • Insert U3 drive back and execute WinSCP.
  • Switch to your language.
