home directory is changed when switching sessions

i don't know if this is a bug or a misconfiguration on my part.

when i switch from one session to another, the home directory of that session is set to the current directory. this occurs in both the local and remote panes.

for example:
open a new session. you are currently in /home/username.
go up a directory to /home.
click the home button; you are returned to /home/username.
go up a directory to /home again.
open a second session in the same window--it doesn't matter what session--and then switch back to your first session.
go up a directory to /.
click the home button. you are returned to /home instead of /home/username.

i am using winscp 3.8.2 (build 330) with the norton interface and connecting via sftp v3.
default directory is home directory is checked.
remember panels' state when switching sessions is checked.
do not change state of local panel when switching sessions is unchecked.
remember last used directory is unchecked.
