Re: Differing File Sizes

That's why you make the big money, Martin! I have used a number of FTP applications and have never witnessed the bigger/smaller file differential before.
WinSCP is modestly different than those and it is to be expected that certain aspects of its use would be different, as well.

With FTP, the file size changes too for ASCII (text) mode.

What you describe seems exacly like ASCII (text) transfer. File size differs because the end-of-line sequence on Windows is two characters (bytes) long, while the UNIX uses only one character (byte). So during upload, a file should get smaller and vice versa.

However, in you first post, you referring to Binary transfers as well. Please check if this happens also with this type of transfer. It should not. And I would bet that it does not.

I appreciate your assistance and straight forward explanations - PLUS - you are absolutely right about the Binary transfers...same size on both sides of the connection.I should have checked my stats my closely before including the Binary transfer issue.
Thank you so much for your help.

I really appreciate your swift reply. I'm using the latest download - SCP3 - on Windows 98 . I began using it 08-29-03. I'm familiar only with SFTP transfers, so no, I haven't tried anything in SCP. In fact, I'm not entirely certain what the differences between the two are. When I reverse the transfer...(download my upload, if you will) the file size appears to return to its orginal size.
The pages I've transferred all seem to be behaving correctly on the site, so I'm wondering why I'm not seeing matching sizes after transfer and...naturally...what I can do to syncronize my file sizes.

Thanks again for all of your help!

Differing File Sizes

In each instance, the transferred file is smaller than the original...often by only a few bytes and in certain cases by a significantly larger number. This is holding true with ASCII, Binary and automatic transfers using SFTP mode.
What am I not doing that I should be doing?
Thanks for your help...
