Do you have them enabled in preferences? If you do, can you post a log file showing overwirtting file without confirmation?

Regarding not true in my WinXP box. I am not talking abt Win XP explroer but about WinSCP commander interface. Try sorting local window files by clicking on Changed column and it puts folders first even though they have older modification date

I know. I just said, that Windows Explorer does it the same. For other thinks you wanted WinSCP to behave like Windows Explorer.

What is the IMG tag in forum posting text area for , if there is no area to actually upload the screenshot image?

This is standard in all BBS - this one appears to be a customized phpBB - the tag is to provide a link to remote hosting service to display the image inline.

The following code snippet makes the image that you see below.

I am not getting file overwrite confirmations - need way to turn it off.

After typing a lengthy forum post it says the word "p-i-c-s" (remove hyphens) is not allowed and there is no link to edit the post, and I lost all what I typed. Dont have the time to type it again.

What is the IMG tag in forum posting text area for , if there is no area to actually upload the screenshot image?

I have "transfer on background" unchecked - as seen in screenshot - but still "no confirmations" remains checked and I watn confirmations for overwrites for this FTP server.

But it is disabled, so it does not have any effect. You will get confirmations.

I found one more problem relating to drag n drop how to attach an image to this forum post? There is an IMG tag button but file upload does not seem to be allowed. So what is the IMG button for? It only inserts [img] to a forum post.

You can use it to insert your extenal image inline to the post.

regarding the "disconnect" yes there is a popup that shows when line got disconnected but I want a way to bypass it - "auto reconnect" I am using latest WinSCP I always check for updates every week - FTP protocol

So what was you complaint about going to disconnect and connect about? I do not understand.

but it is registered file type in local system, and it shows in local window

Right. But local window shows icon extracted from the .ico file (the same way Windows Explorer does). I do not know if .ico files have any default icon associated.

"It only associates icons with the remote files based on their extension. "
=> i dont mean download the file to display the icon, PDF and DOC fiels in the remote server are showing the icon only .ico does not show, but it is registered file type in local system, and it shows in local window

Will try that.

Another thing, is that I am using Ie8 Beta when posting in this forum and when I have reached the limit of the text area for posting, and I start typing in more the display becomes very erratic and the tex area jumps around and does not allow me to type more than one- text area full.

Will try that once IE8 is out.

Also as seen in attached screenshot the "No confirmations" check box is grayed out. I do remember one time I wanted not to ask me for overwriting files to remote FTP, but not always. If automatic overwriting is enabled in preferences and you have option to choose "no confirmations" to "confirmations needed' then that checkbox should not be grayed out - another usability issue. If confirmations can only be set in preferences then there is no point in having a checkbox that is grayed out and cannot respond to user input..

The checkbox is related to background transfers only (when Transfer on background is checked).

There is an option to auto-reconnect but that works only during a transfer. I keep my connection open without doing a transfer then when it gets disconnected it just says Disconnected in the status bar and I have to click on Sessions > Disconnect, and then again Connect. As long as the window is open I want autoreconnect.

You should get a popup window with option to reconnect in this case. I haven't seen behaviour like that before. what version of WinSCP are you using? What protocol?

Also something prevents favicon.ico files in the remote server from displaying their icon thumbnail in commander interface. The .ico files in local window show the thumbnail or icon short form. But not in remote window. But word and pdf docs in the remote ftp server show their corresponding icons.

WinSCP does not download remote files to extract their icon. It only associates icons with the remote files based on their extension.

When you have files that have been changed recently in your local folder and you sort by "Changed" in the local window, the folders appear first, even though some files have later modification dates and theya re supposed to appear first. This is differnet from Standard windows explorer sorting behavior where regardless of whether it is a folder or a file, the latest modified date always appears at the top when you do this sort in Win Explorer. Another usability issue. I am not trying to find fault but I would like to see to get these fixed in the next release.

Not true for my WinXP box. My Windows Explorer always puts folders first. Can you post a screenshot?

Another quirk is that, in the remote window when you are using Ctrl to multiple select files, the FIRST file is not getting included in multi select. This is also different from standard windows explorer multi-select behavior. To reproduce this problem normal click on any file in a remote window, then press Ctrl and click on another file in the same remote window, and the original click did not select the file

In Commander mode, when you click on a file, it is not selected, only focused. Please read documentation.

Well I cant believe that the users are asking Edit to be default action because that is available as an option and they can always change it in the preferences. Right out of the box, Edit option as default is not a good usability choice in my opinion. Since the software is free I cant really complain.

In any case I have more issues to report. Have some local files with .htm and .html file extensions. Then sort by "Ext" in local window in commander interface. The sort mixes up htm and html but in remote window the Ext sort groups htm together and html together.

Another issue is that I frequently get disconnected bys erver and need way to auto-reconnect in the event of disconnection.

If I just change the default double click action to "Open" then the problem is fixed. BUT this is more of an usability issue rather than a coding issue. People expect to open a file especially a local file normally through a double click that is standard Windows behavior. Anything that re-defines what a double click should normally do, is crossing the usability acceptance level.

For long time WinSCP did Open by default. Then I was receiving several requests per month from users wanting edit to the default. Since I've changed that to Edit, you are probably the first one in at least year complaining. sorry.

Yes but it is an obscure option buried deep in preferences. Not what I expected in a standard user perspective. The default double-click needs to be file open with registered file association handler in local system at least for local files.

Re: file types in local window

Please read documentation. If that does not help, come back.

file types in local window

If I have file types like .pdf or .jpg displaying in Local Files pane and I double click them they open in built in WinSCP editor. Eventhough the file associateions are in place for pdf and jpg etc. This is something need to be fixed
