Verify file transfers

Sometimes when I try to transfer files (uploading mostly) the destination file becomes corrupted. I am using SFTP, with WinSCP as the client and OpenSSH for Windows as the server. I thought that the SFTP protocol allowed for verifying files, and if so how do I activate this feature?

Only the most recent version of SFTP allows MD5 checksums (or similar). I doubt your server supports that. WinSCP does neither. However I doubt about the corruption, anyway. Are you sure it is not caused for example by using text/ascii mode transfer?
