"CreateFile failed; code 5 - Access is denied" when install

I get the following message as soon as I select install:
CreateFile failed; code 5 - Access is denied
I got this on both the 4.0.7 version and the 4.1.3. I 'm installing it on a Win XP Professional SP 2 laptop.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

WinSCP 4.3.7 & Windows 7

During installation of WinSCP 4.3.7 the error
Unable to execute file: c:\<path>\winSCP.exe
CreateProcess failed; code 5. Access is denied
This happens while "adding installation directory to search path" and while"

Once install has completed if you leave the tick box to start WinSCP the same error message is shown.

Once installed if you double click the WinSCP icon the follow error occurs:
Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have appropriate permissions.
Now I am an Enterprise Admin, Domain Admin and local Admin and even if I move the directory local to say c:\winscp instead of the usual program files directory I get the same error.

The following appears in eventvwr when attempting to start the program:

Could this be a problem with accessing the registry?

We use this application across a large number of desktops/workstations which we have had to upgrade to Windows 7 and to have to find another app to replace this would be very unfortunate.

I do not think so.

Can you post a screenshot of Effective permissions tab of Security settings for winscp.exe for your account?

Re: WinSCP 4.3.7 & Windows 7

Ah, this helped me. On that tab I had to click unblock file since this install file "may have come from another machine". The box it's on is Win 2003 Enterprise.
