I am using this command syntax to transfer file to remote location.

echo put "file with spaces.dat" | /command "open" "option transfer ascii"

Question: How do I change the remote target directory from root to root/xx?

I researched to find this post but was not able to find preferences to save the ini file. How do I do that?

Thanks for your time!

I'm not sure what you mean, maybe you look for:
put "file with spaces.dat" /xx
