- Unix treats three and more-characters filenames with dots-only as regular files. Windows treat them the same as ".." (i.e. the parent directory).
- Windows trims trailing dots from filenames.

Once dot-only filenames are obscured from Windows, all security checks which hide dot-only filenames from user can be removed.

Along security checks for slashes in filenames were removed as well.
