Re: Bind view function to key (e.g. F3 like in Commander clones)

Either until editor is closed (is WinSCP is able to detect that) and at most until WinSCP is closed.

I assumed that. Well, my SlickEdit proc is running all day long (as is my Commander) so i hope WinSCP does not run out of patience... ;-)

Anyway, this request is being tracked already.

Great. I'm looking forward to it. Thanks.

that's why i think it would be great to have a hotkey, /the/ F3 hotkey in WinSCP.
does this convince you to implement it (soon)?

Not really :-) I'm just asking.

Re: Bind view function to key (e.g. F3 like in Commander clones)

- First of all, since the Commander is my start-once-and-then-use-it-for-all-file-ops-tool i am so used to the F3-ESC sequence when browsing through files, i miss it deeply in WinSCP. when at the same time all the other major hotkeys (F5, F6, CTRL-R, etc.) are available in the good old Norton tradition...
- i also like to distinguish between the edit and view ops, not only by principle but by the choice of tools for it. editing with SlickEdit is one great thing, but having a QUICK glance at a file as in the Commander and be able to switch line/binary/hexmode in a single click as in the Commander's lister (which is available as a stand alone exe and is configured as my View utility in WinSCP).
- also, the VIEW op in WinSCP is modal which i prefer, whereas the EDIT op is non-modal and watches for file changes to upload then (btw: for how long?)

What main advantage do you see in View function comparing to existing Edit function?

Bind view function to key (e.g. F3 like in Commander clones)

i would be really fond of a possibility to bind a key (preferably "F3") to the "View" function.
I consider the F3/View in TotalCommander (view file under cursor) the most useful key there is and i would like to have this possibility in WinSCP, too.
i dont even need a user defined configuration as long as it was F3 ;-)
