"Set Permissions Recursively" Problem

I use WinSCP to transfer ROMs and emulators to my iTouch. However, I've read that in order to save, it is necessary to check the box "set group, owner, and permissions recursively" in the properties of the emulator directory (For example, if you're using GBA, the literal file named GBA).

My problem is that when I check this box and hit ok, the next time I reopen properties it appears as unchecked. Needless to say, I am still unable to save in my ROMs.

Also, I'm curious as to what has to go into "octal", and where to find this information.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
