Try to upgrade your server. I'm using the same server, just newer version and it is working.

Re: Error getting name of current remote directory: WinServ2008

Please post a full log file showing the problem.

To generate log file, enable logging, log in to your server and do the operation and only the operation that causes the error. For posting extensive logs you may use pastebin or similar application. Note that passwords and passphrases not stored in the log. You may want to remove other data you consider sensitive though, such as host names, IP addresses, account names or file names (unless they are relevant to the problem). If you do not want to post the log publicly, you may email it to me. You will find my address (if you log in) in my forum profile. Please include link back to this topic in your email. Also note in this topic that you have emailed the log.

Error getting name of current remote directory: WinServ2008

when I access the Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard using WinSCP I get the following error, what should I do when this error occurred.

Error getting name of current remote directory

Cannot get real path for '.'.
General failure (server should provide error description).
Error code: 4
Error message from server: Failure
Request code: 16

and I get an error like this anymore.

Error listing directory ".

Bad message (badly formatted packet or protocol incompatibility).
Error code: 5
Error message from server: Bad message
Request code: 11

I am trying to use putty may be the same error when I use WinSCP but putty there are no problems with this error.

Using WinSCP 4.3.6 (Build 1655) on Windows 7 Ultimate Service Pack 1
