What dies? WinSCP?

Can you send me an email, so I can send you back a debug version of WinSCP to track the problem? Please include link back to this topic in your email. Also note in this topic that you have sent the email. Thanks.

Re: WinSCP 4.1.8 uses excessive memory on Windows XP 2002 SP3

As stated above the Available physical memory gradually is eaten up.

With 4.1.9 it has a message titled Error that says Out of Memory! with Ok, Reconnect & Help buttons. I have to generally use Task Manager to kill the various WinSCP tasks and it doesn't like to close even when you hit the end program message.

With 4.2.3 it comes up with a message about Incoming packet was garbled and then it attempts to reconnect. So I can just say cancel and close and WinSCP closes.

Here is a sample from the log file:
* 2009-08-26 10:23:44.271 (EExternalException) External exception EEFFACE

Once WinSCP is closed then the memory is freed up and you can go back in and start the transfer again.

I did find where to save the remote and local paths. I was looking under preferences and didn't think to look under the stored sessions.

I'm having this same issue is it going to be solved at some point? I can only download 8 - 10 files at a time. (WinSCP 4.1.9 Build 416 and Windows XP 2002 SP3)
[Update: I also downloaded the latest beta 4.2.3 and it has the same issue, actually seems to happen even quicker with this version as can only get 5 or 6 files]
Thanks.

What does actually happen after you download the files?

Re: WinSCP 4.1.8 uses excessive memory on Windows XP 2002 SP3

I must say that the 4.2.3 beta version fails in a much more grace full way then 4.1.9 did. With 4.1.9 it was almost impossible to close out once it failed. 4.2.3 just wants to log back in and I'm able to close it and re-load and go back to the transfer.

I haven't heard of such problem before.

WinSCP 4.1.8 uses excessive memory on Windows XP 2002 SP3

Am running WinSCP v4.1.8 (the latest at this time) on Windows XP 2002 SP3. When I upload (or download) files, the memory used (as shown by Windows Task Manager's "PF Usage" and "Page File Usage History") goes up almost exponentially. The memory is not released between files or between file transfers; it is only released after I close WinSCP.

For example, I just tried to upload 75 MB in 8 files. Before starting the transfer, Windows Task Manager showed 557 MB used. After transferring (actually, only copying) the files, WTM showed 935 MB used. I also tried downloading 17.7 MB. Before starting, WTM showed 548 MB used; after transferring (actually, copying), WTM showed 654 MB used.

Why would transferring 75 MB of files consume 378 MB (935-557) of memory? Why would 17.7 MB of files consume 106 (654-548) MB of memory?

Also, while WinSCP runs, the CPU usage is mostly at 100% utilization. I'm assuming this is related to the excessive outlay of memory resources.

Is there some setting that I can tweak to cause WinSCP to perform more normally?
