Re: far plugin - couple of questions/problems

Actually FarScp breaks connection always :-)
Loosing connection after 'cd /incorrect_path/....' happens only with SCP protocol and only with some shells. Try to define different shell on SCP tab of login dialog.

FarScp plugin open one connection for each command (every transfer, every directory listing), so it does not open shell and so it does not need to do all the sanity checks WinSCP does on startup. I 100% agree with you. WinSCP - quicker and has a lot of useful features! But FarSCP doesn't break connection after 'cd /incorrect_path/....' but WinSCP does. :-(

You may switch off some startup checks, if your server configuration allows it. See "Clear aliases", "Clear mational variables", "Alias LS to display group name", "Lookup user groups" on SCP tab of login dialog.

It's very good your plugin has such features but it's not clear (for me) what these options mean.

For example:
My server supports SSH v1 and SSH v2. It will be great if somebody explain what protocol version better to use with slow connection (32kbit/s) and what 'Encryption chipher' to use in this case...
Probably changing these option I can make WinSCP more faster. I think a lot of uses have similar questions
and it will be great if you supply WinSCP with help/docs/faq.

Also note that if your server supports SFTP, FarScp plugin uses SFTP, not SCP. So you probably compare uncomparable. You may try SFTP with WinSCP as well.

My server supports SCP only.
Actually I found the core of the problem:
'Remember last used directory' was checked and 'Remote directory' has incorrect path. So it was my side problem. Now WinSCP starts the session in 20-25 sec. i think it's normally for 32kbit/s channel.
Thanks for help. :-)

PS.
I've tried to use another Far plugin called "scp 0.9.4" and it starts the sessions march quicker - 5-7 sec. on 32kbit/s channel!!!!!

I'm sure you can improve somehow connection proccess to speed up connection time!

Is it possible that you create a test account for me on the server?

Hi,

ok, I've tried - yes, it does the same thing. What's odd is that you can input anything in that password field and it still let you in using password from session data. But if I dind't store password in the session data, then it asks for "enter password" and I just hit enter, it asks for "_hostname_ session password", so I guess it asks for something different.
Please, note I dont have pagent installed.

Also, just noticed another bug - "Remember last used directory" flag is unchecked, however it doesn't work - plugin changes "Remote directory" to the last one I was in, each time I connect/work with the host.

You're right. Thanks. I'll fix it.

1) is there any way to store default confiiguration? (like compress/sftp vs scp/.. default username?)

No.
2) I creat a new session and store password in the session data instead of entering it each time I connect. Then when I try to coneect - it asks for password anyway. You hit enter and it goes through OK, but what's the point in asking for password when it's already entered before? At least sort of "ask for password everytime" check box (a-la built in ftp plugin) would help, I guess.

Do you have your password saved in stored session? It is possible. If you do, please try the same thing with WinSCP application. Let me know.

3) doing cd /to/nonexistent/dir (from command line) crashes plugin

I'll try it.

far plugin - couple of questions/problems

Hi,

have a couple of questions:

p.s. 1705 far, latest winscp plugin (9/15/03)

thanks,
