Just an update. I deleted 3 large videos in my downloads directory and the issue went away. I added back 2 large videos and the issue is still gone. I guess one of the videos could have been corrupt and causing issues.

Re: Local directory panel very slow scrolling through file list

And can you at least reproduce this strange scenario consistently?

Can you send me an email, so I can send you back a debug version of WinSCP to track the problem? Please include link back to this topic in your email. Also note in this topic that you have sent the email. Thanks.

You will find my address (if you log in) in my forum profile.

Does this happen with any directory with >50 files or with certain directories/drives only?

Well that set me to thinking. (and playing)
It does not happen on every directory with large number of files. I have one directory that had 57 files in it, and when I first opened the directory in the local pane, the program began its slow response and delay, took quite a while to scroll to the bottom, and I got a couple of "Not Responding" messages in the top title bar. I then clicked back to the root and into another directory that had over 200 files in it, and no problem at all scrolling smoothly threw the list. I then went back to the original directory with only 57 files, and everything appeared fine again! when back into the directory with >200 and it bogged again. Not sure if that helps. I can understand how hard it can be to resolve an issue if it is not consistent to some set of rules..

Local directory panel very slow scrolling through file list

Platform: Widows 7 (64) and Windows XP
both system with all latest updates.
Winscp 5.1.6

WinSCP starts fine and works great until I access a local directory with a moderately large number of files (>50), then the program slows to a craw and will ultimately show a "Program Not Responding" for several seconds and at times up a minute. This happens on both machines I use. I even tried to ensure the path is short and using the root of the local drive will cause same sluggishness. The program does eventually come out of it, but it can be several minutes trying to scroll though even a short list of local files.

I have checked past issues, and see something similar was reported and a bug tracker put on it, but nothing appears to have been done since 2011 to solve this problem.
