Re: Putty Integration and Default Putty Settings

I do not think that my answer sucks. It links documentation chapter that was written to answer exatly the question that was asked. Of course, I could have copied the chapter over to the post. But that's wrong approach. I understand that the documentation may not be comprehensible. In that case I suppose I get the question again and make the documentation better eventually. Or someone else will, that's why it is wiki. The link in the post will then point to clearer documentation, instead of having copy of old uncomprehensible version.

So if you do not understand the docs, let me know. Or make it better yourself.

I also wonder, where have you purchased WinSCP? It is open source, have you noticed? :-)

Also, there are no other administrators. I'm the only one behind the project.

Hello,

I know you are the "site admin" and all, but I just have to reply to your answer.

For the most part, I read the docs on the programs that I use thoroughly. However, sometimes, the answer I am looking for eludes me, and frustrates me further. I work upwards of 14 hours a day at my job, and I wish I had the time and luxury to read every single word of the accompanying docs. I write user docs myself. BUT, when a client writes to me with a question......... I answer a person's question with the ANSWER that they will understand. They are paying my salary. I would be fired if I told a customer to read the docs when they wrote with a question. I get the same questions about the product all the time - but our products are complex, and some people get the docs the first time, and some don't. That's why my name and email are listed on the product for SUPPORT.

Since I purchased this software, and registered it, I see that their is a user support forum. GREAT! So I register at the site and look through some of the posts. At least 4 back pages. Not seeing my question posed before, I go to post my question. I see however, the statement that asks to please read this link before posting. So I did. I did a search on the keywords of my problem. It presented results, which I read, that were what I read already in the docs. Obviously I am STILL not understanding it. So I come here to ask in plain English hoping that someone with greater knowledge than myself of this product would take a few seconds to reply. Just like this person did with their question, and look at the answer you gave them.

 I think your answer sucks.

You are the site admin? What help are you? You embarrassed me for asking my question below. I think also that the person who asked the question I am replying to felt the same way.

I ALREADY READ THE DOCS, and I DON'T UNDERSTAND THEM. THAT'S WHY I CAME HERE IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!! Isn't that what a support forum is about?

I hope there are more administrators to this board that yourself. Maybe it might be time to go re-read the docs yourself of how a site admin is supposed to support the users, and not make them feel small for asking a SUPPORT question in the (wait for it) .......... SUPPORT forum!

Signed,
Dissapointed user!

Putty Integration and Default Putty Settings

Hello all

I love the Putty integration feature in WinSCP and i use it all the time. However, when opening Putty sessions like that, i do not have control on basic "putty things" like, the font, the font-size, the xterm emulation mode etc, etc.

In normal Putty operations, such things are saves as Putty Sessions.

Is there a way to have access to these parameters when working with WinSCP and having it itntegrated with Putty?

Please assist.

Thank you.
