File corruption during transfer of a large collection of mp3 files

Recently a friend was using WinSCP to transfer his mp3 collection from a Win98SE destop to a Redhat 8.0 Linux system over a 100Mb LAN connection. The files were organized as 4 directories, each containing ~100 files. After transferring the first directory successfully and about 30 files of the second directory the transfer began corrupting each subsequent file. The corrupted files would be ok for a variable length at the beginning of the file. Then the remainder of the file, when played using an MP3 player, sounded like the same data block had been repeated over and over up to the expected length of the file.

Has anyone else experienced this sort of problem? Is it a known problem?

Thanks,
Richard
