Server unexpectedly closed network connection

Dear miss, sir.

I'm trying to transfer files from an external Linux server (Linux lopik 2.6.16.27-0.9-smp #1 SMP Tue Feb 13 09:35:18 UTC 2007 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux) to my local windows machine (Windows XP Professional version 2002 Service Pack 3) using WinSCP GUI version 4.3.5 (build 1463), Commander mode, protocol SCP, but during the transfer I regularly get the error:

Server unexpectedly closed network connection
Copying file 'xxxxx.xxx' fatally failed.
Copying files from remote side failed.

Some transfer actions succeed, but a lot are terminated with this error during the transfer.
The files are not bigger than 40mb.
Transfer mode is Binary.
The same problem occurs with older versions of WinSCP.

Here is a part of the logging:

Re: Server unexpectedly closed network connection

Can you first try it with SFTP? Btw, is there any reason you are using SCP?

It's a server in Switserland and I am connecting to it from the Netherlands.
Now, if I try SFTP, I get the message 'Cannot initialize SFTP protocol. Is the host running a SFTP server?'.
I guess the other site is only set up to do a SCP connection.

Just a small note to this post:
If I transfer the other way around, the connection does not terminate.
SCP is used because I tranfer directly to a linux server and it must be a secured connection.

It looks like this version runs stable.
I did a test transfer of a 7gb file and at 10% it was still not disconnected.
Thank you very much.
