I had this same issue, but only with a newly created user, suspected SSHD config but

There was an error with the default shell in /etc/passwd and the shell had a trailing slash. Only the original password would work. Clue was in /var/log/auth.log

I have no idea how and if does changing password using passwd work on Windows. I suggest you to change your password using Windows Control Panel and to regenerate the /etc/passwd file.

password

I think I've already done it.
I write in the bash prompt:
passwd Administrator

If I looked at /etc/passwd the file date remains still to 28 december... and in this file at the line Administrator I see Administrator:unused_by_nt/2000/xp:500:513:Administrator, is that normal?

Re: Can't login after change password

I'm not sure, but maybe you have to update /etc/passwd file once you have changed the password.

Can't login after change password

Hi,
I have installed Cygwin SSH server on Windows 2003 Server and WinSCP on my XP SP2 client.
All worked fine till yesterday.
I login as administrator.
Today I've changed the administrator password and now I can't login!
Consider that I can telnet on that machine on port 22 and SSH server give me a response.
Here the log.
What can I do?
Thanks.
