remote: sorting by extension

hi,

WinSCP is a really nice discovery for me, but there's one major annoyance: it seems that it's not possible to sort remote files by extension (in NC-clone mode). it's probably easy to implement ... pretty please?

sorry ... found it

the feature could be easier to spot, though. for example, it's not in the right-click context menu. or perhaps the file extension should be in a separate column, true NC style?

Or easier, just make it possible to have a file type column remotely as well as locally. I just now found out after reading this thread that I could sort by extension remotely via the "Remote" menu bar, but I hadn't found it previously (and had wished for it...).

His specific request was that when right-clicking in the remote window, a "Sort By" sub-menu be available for sorting items, which would contain an extension option (instead of clicking the column headers).

I believe that file type is property of local files only. The remote file system can use very different filename conventions, not compatible with local ones. In such case the file type column would contain senseless information.

I'll consider this.

I will agree with you. However, let me point out that we are using WinSCP, which means that the end user is running Windows. Since Windows has fairly reliable file extensions, it's sensible to think that the user is uploading to a server where those file extensions are also going to be still in place (images, .php, .html, etc., etc.).

There have been a couple of times that I've wanted to bring back all of a certain file type in a directory that contained many files of different extensions. Since the directory was so large, and there's only *exclude* file mask instead of an *include* file mask, this was a chore. However, this was before I found out that you could sort by file extension via the menu bar, so now it's not an issue =)

Thanks, for your continued dedication, though. There's a lot of people out here that really appreciate your work and support. =)

You can use "select by mask" command. Also next version will have the "include mask" too.

secondary sorting condition

Any chance to have a secondary sorting order implemented? Currently when I check for "sort by extension", the files with the same extension are in a random order. Would be really nice to have something like "sort by extension and then by name".
