Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.19045.2965] was hibernated with two WinSCP apps running.
Sent Wake on LAN to wake the remote PC.
Connected with remote desktop to remote PC and received this message twice, one for each instance.
But the both recovered and did not impact user experience.

Lately been getting random freezing/lockups and the panes will just go blank for ~10 seconds. Not sure if it's been caused by an update or? Also just got this Invalid access to memory error.

The program was left connected to various sites, as I normally do, upon returning to the RDP session where it was running it reported the stack trace.
The winSCP software had not crashed out completely, and I was able to navigate up to the parent directory. I did this and refreshed.
I note after navigating to the parent directory the folder, I think I was in, was removed in the tree view. Deleted by somebody else using the same server.
Its possible that the code is not robust in the tree viewer to the file system underneath changing, agreed this is an edge case situation, as is always the case with a stack trace.
The protocol running at the time was FTP if this has any bearing.
I guess I could try an reproduce this, perhaps I will later.

I opened WinSCP this morning and used it for a bit while the laptop was connected to power. Later, I removed the power plug from the laptop and left the laptop for a few hours, then when I came back, plugged it in again (it didn't sleep or hibernate), and saw this error. This was the first time this error occurred (as far as I know).

The problem occurred after the device was switched off and my laptop was put in sleep mode. The message popped up after I switched my laptop back on. The device WinSCP was connected to was not on the network anymore.
It has only occurred once but I updated WinSCP only yesterday.

the problem happens when the VM I am connected to shuts down. then the file system is unavailable for winSCP to maintain a connection. It is not really a problem, just the conneciton is gone until I restart the VM.

I was updating my media wiki, so dragged the images folder from the website to my desktop to copy it and back it up, the error occurred 83% of the way through the transfer.

I remote into a local machine and start moving files from a server to an external hard drive. I then close the RDP session and let it run. The session stays running in the background with WinSCP left open. The error was there when I opened the RDP session this morning.

On closing WinSCP it seems to keep a session alive. For instance if I reopen the windows session I find several notifications that the connection is broken. Today in addition I found this Memory Error. I could not close WinSCP. I had to go to Task Manager to individually kill several WinSCP tasks.

I'm looking (again) at WinSCP options to try to find a Close option that applies.

If you could provide a ticket number then I'll send evidence at least of the "keep alive but connection broken" messages when it appears.

It is not a big nuisance but it may be worth your while to know of it. Usual disclaimer: any advice gratefully received.

I do not know what happened. I think that WinSCP was open and logged into a site when I put my Win 11 laptop in Sleep. A few minutes after I turned the laptop on I saw the WinSCP error.
