Issue 2379 – Failure when canceling reconnection on authentication banner, when the connection was already closed by the server

1. Open WinSCP
2. Connect to the site
3. Drag and drop files to move

The transfer starts and after 5 minutes the session is reset. If I try to reconnect I get the following error:

Received unexpected packet in response to authentication request, type 976433499 (unknown). If I don't click on OK the transfers continue. If I click OK, the transfers stop and the remote session closes.

I'm not able to provide the logs as the log file created is over 1GB in size and even compressing to a ZIPX the file size is over 43MB. Please advise on how to share.

Way to reproduce:

1. Open a WinSCP session.
   
2. The session runs into a timeout or gets closed from server side (we have auto idle logouts in the company)
   
3. When the session has closed, the reconnect dialog of WinSCP appears.
   
4. Do not reconnect, but instead try to close the reconnect dialog using the dialog's [X] close button in the upper right corner. This leads to the exception. I can reproduce it since at least 2 years and different WinSCP versions.

Pretty sure this is triggered when a pre-login MOTD banner is displayed and the connection is terminated (either timed out or lost, not sure which one triggered this). Then I clicked X to close the banner. Haven't tried to reproduce, but should be reproducible.

I don't know actually know if this would reproduce under the same circumstances or not - this is the first time I've seen this and I had never tried to do these steps before... But what happened was, there was a popup saying my password was going to expire in a few days, with some button options at the bottom, and instead I clicked on the "X" in the upper-right-hand corner to close it this time. Then it threw this memory access error, and then it encouraged me to report it.

I closed a dialog box that usually appears when I connect or reconnect to a Linux host via SSH. It's basically the banner telling me the OS version and other stuff. But, I think the reconnect was occurring while I was closing the lid on my laptop. When I opened it, and saw the WinSCP page, I went to close the dialog using the X in the upper right corner (not by clicking the OK button) and got the error.

Had an SCP session open which timed out. When clicking on this connection window, WinSCP tried to reconnect. This specific connection displays an authentication banner. WinSCPs authentication banner dialog appears. I tried to close it by clicking the dialog's "X" closing button, not by pressing any of the dialog buttons. Then the error popped up.

Btw: The "Report options" in the bug report should offer a third radio button for "I don't know / first time occurred".
