Did a search that spanned a large number of directories with a very large number of files. I got an error message from that which I don't remember exactly, but it was something like, Connection interrupted - if the problem persists, consider eliminating (something about a buffer size).

Then I aborted the search, but later found out that it seemed to keep running on it's own, even after the dialogue box had closed.

Then, I just clicked on one folder, which was not particularly large, and got the error message.

This is the first time that I have encountered this error, and it was immediately after upgrading to the latest version WinSCP. I have not encountered this error in the previous versions.

<I left my laptop with winscp open and connected by sftp to my vps (and I was connected to vpn network) then I came back to laptop and got winscp window active and tried to refresh my server's directory with ctrl+r and saw that nothing was happening, looked like it was disconnected from vps but there were no evidence that it was. The refresh sign was greyed out and I had no idea what was going on. I tried to go one directory up by clicking the '..' item in the files list and this resulted in the error window that took me here to write it for you! Hope this helps winscp to thrive.>

When the error (with the stack trace) happened, I clicked Report (which took me here) & I tried to remember my steps to post in the report...either I missed a Step or something else is happening (random chance?). The only thing I can think of is: instead of "Step 5: Disconnect your Internet", just minimize WinSCP & wait a few hours or days...if you leave a connection open long enough & use your computer like normal (like putting it to sleep), the connection will drop eventually: either cuz the server gives up or you lose Internet or whatever. I thought manually disconnecting the Internet would simulate that, but I guess not...

WinSCP has many issues related to losing connection to the server, reconnecting & trying to continue using WinSCP as if nothing happened. The bottom line is that if you are using WinSCP & the connection to the server disconnects, for any reason, it's best to close WinSCP completely (even if reconnecting was successful {which it normally is}), otherwise you WILL encounter some version of "Invalid access to memory", at some point when you try to do something. I think I will actually try to start reporting all "Invalid access to memory" errors, so I can help you find & fix them. I've encountered various "Invalid access to memory" issues over the years...& I've seen many of them reported in this "Automatic Bug Reports" forum, so I would've thought they would've been found & fixed by now.

Steps to Reproduce...

Run WinSCP
Connect to a server (SSH/SFTP, if that matters)
Double click a remote file to open it in an Editor (mine opens in Notepad2-mod, but I don't think which Editor matters)
Make a change & Save the file (maybe not necessary, but just for example)
Disconnect your Internet (do something to lose connection to the server {like unplug your network cable or disconnect from WiFi [or just wait for your ISP to flake out]})
Wait for WinSCP to notice the disconnection & it will try to reconnect (or poke around {click Refresh in the Remote file list} & help it notice)...it might also stop trying to reconnect & say something like "Host doesn't exist"
Reconnect your Internet (reconnect your network cable or reconnect to WiFi)
In WinSCP click Reconnect
In WinSCP, double click to open a 2nd Notepad of the same file you were editing before the reconnect (leave the original Notepad open)
In the 2nd copy of Notepad, make a change & save the file
WinSCP will say something about it can't save the file cuz the connection was already closed (sorry, I don't have the exact error msg at the moment)
In the 2nd copy of Notepad, make another change & save the file again
WinSCP will say it's not able to save (again)
Close the 2nd Notepad
Focus the 1st Notepad, make a change & save

Actual Results...

When a session disconnects, I would flag any open files as being associated with a disconnected session, so if any of them are saved/updated, I would display a msg telling the user that, telling them to reconnect to the same server to be able to upload the changes. Also, if WinSCP is closed, I would flag any changed-but-not-uploaded files to NOT BE DELETED...I would save info about which connection they are related to, so they can be uploaded when a connection to the same server is made.
When the same session is reconnected, I would re-associate any still-opened files with the newly-reconnected session. This should avoid the "Invalid access to memory" error, since at no time would I be accessing invalid memory.

I have checked the checkbox for "Do not show the transfer box confirmation" and it causes the server disconnected. I had to reconnect to complete the file transfer. hope that helps..

A connection was opened to a host, then the PC was put to sleep. After waking up the connection was declared lost and the error occurred during reconnection.

I clicked on the application to bring it to focus. then it tossed error. It should have prompted for a reconnect. As my prior session would have been expired at the time of the window being brought back to focus.

The error occurred after a remote site was opened in WinSCP, the PC was hibernated and restored from hibernation (with a weekend between these two events), then a directory change was attempted.

Server I was connected to had rebooted, winscp didn't detect the loss of connection. I got the error when I clicked to change directory. I don't know if it happens a lot as the server I was connected to, doesn't go down a lot.
