Moving and Duplicating Remote Files

With WinSCP you can manipulate remote files directly on the server without downloading them to local machine. You can particularly move or duplicate remote files to different remote directory.

Moving Remote Files

To move remote files, select them in file panel and then go to File(s) > Move to. You can also drag selected files to different directory in file panel listing or directory tree.

You will be then prompted with dialog, where you can alter destination directory and specify operation mask.

Note that most servers does not allow moving files across different file systems. Also you may not be able to move file if the target file already exists.

Duplicating Remote Files

To duplicate remote files, select them in file panel and then go to File(s) > Duplicate. You can also drag selected files to different directory in file panel listing or directory tree while holding down Ctrl key.

You will be then prompted with dialog, where you can alter destination directory and specify operation mask.

Note that duplicating files is not natively supported by SFTP protocol. WinSCP allows you to do so by opening separate shell session.
