This request is tracker already:
Issue 2295 – Checksum support for S3 protocol
Though I believe that ETag works as a checksum only for files uploaded in one part.
For example WinSCP uses multi-part uploads for all files above 5MB.

Implement basic checksum for Amazon S3 using a combination of md5sum (local) and ETag (remote) will be usefull. There are also other supported methods, but they are optional and need to be enable on the bucket side.
