Re: View your saved site password

Hello smithurmann,

For a password saved in your own WinSCP site, the documented recovery route is Generate Session URL/Code:

  1. Select that saved site in the Login dialog.
  2. Choose Manage > Generate Session URL/Code.
  3. Open the .NET assembly code tab and inspect the Password value locally. This generated text is for viewing; you do not need to execute it.

The official FAQ recommends the .NET view because a URL can encode special characters; double quotes can still be escaped in code. A password that was never saved or remembered will not be available through this route.

Keep the generated text private. If you use a master password, retain that protection. You do not need to enable password logging for this method.
