Thanks!

The Web host and my self had a nice long talk about how to read server logs.

Then we had the discussion about firewall logs..

Then we had another one about how to properly use FTP, and or configure ftp servers.

What surprised me was the fact, that I consider my self a novice, yet in contrast to the person we were having the argument with, I was a guru, and I'm being modest.

I did see a whole lot of connections that timed out. I guess what was happening is that they have some kind of IDS protection that started trying to throttle and their system went nuts.. One would go thru, but another wouldn't. Then the system banned My IP for 24 hrs, and then shut the site down until they reset. (I'm thinking the issue kernel panicked the box [it was in the box logs]), Then we had our chat..

I later found where you have in Preferences --> Transfers - Background a setting to limit connections, and it was set to two.. (I was using a background task)

Your confirmation supports and supplements what evidence I had. Thank you for your Response, and I love your product..

Re: Webhost Report's I'm Using 300+ Connections

So, anyway.. Is there a setting I'm not seeing, while in FTP mode (They won't support SCP or SFTP) to limit concurrent connections to five? Is this going to be a INI hack? or are the wonderful people at ultra doing crack?

By default WinSCP does not open more then 5 connections per session (in active mode, in passive mode only 3). You cannot even configure it to use more then 19 per session.

Anyway, if you firewall reports only 15, then it is obviously not a problem of WinSCP.

What about firewall problem? It may not correctly close its outbound connection to the server.

Webhost Report's I'm Using 300+ Connections

While using WinSCP 4.1.6 (Build 412)

Using Protocol Ftp, Standard Setup, No Keep alive's.

With Webhost https://www.ultrawebhosting.com/

My FTP account was temporary deactivated today because I used WinSCP to download a website I was contracted to work on. The offical reason was this:

72.174.135.XX # (CT) IP 72.174.135.XX found to have 335 connections - Sat Sep 6 17:24:21 2008 (IP Obscured to protect the ignorant)

According to their policy located within <invalid hyperlink removed by admin> say's I cannot use more than five concurrent connections.

I did not have logging enabled at the time within WSCP, but my firewall logs report FAR less "Concurrent" connections than 335.. (More like 15)

Thank you for your help, I love WinSCP, and use it pretty just about everyday.. It's normally rock solid, and I experience few if any issues with it. 99% of the problems I do find, like this one, are server related..

Thank you again.
