Additional information:
transferring the offending file with FTP with the following commands works fine and does not generate any errors or warnings.

one file hangs program and times out

Running WinSCP v4.3.3 build 1340 under Windows 7 64-bit
Using GUI with two panels.
One file (out of about 300) repeatedly causes app to hang and then timeout when uploading files to my web site. All other files transfer without problems.
Get message about 53 bare line feeds but then transfer appears to complete successfully.
Then hangs and times out.
Don't see 53 line feeds in offending file.
Emailing log file and offending file.
