Sure I understand.

Yes, sure, it pauses/suspends xfer but if you have to reboot your laptop
(eg having hotfix to be applied, or have winscp restarted), ... then all
of your established sessions are gone.

If you suspend xfer (eg server being too busy or bandwidth usage too high),
you are forced to keep winscp running and not shutdowning your laptop.
(I never used hibernate, got so much prob with NT4 ... and seen boot speed
now, no real advantages to start using it ;-) )
If you close winscp, then you have to restart entire download.

Another reason may be to suspend xfer you did during office hours,
being able to reboot your laptop at will during the week-end, and
resuming xfer when back to office...

You can pause the queue and sleep/hibernate the laptop without closing WinSCP.

Happy user of winscp, a nice feature would be to have
persistent Background Transfers Queue List entries.
Let me explain :

Having to xfer lot of files or sessions, if you have to
pause/pause all session(s) for any reason, closing and
restarting winscp does clear Background Transfers Queue List.
Your paused sessions are gone and you need to restart them.

Would it be possible to have, when adding xfert to
Background Transfers Queue List a kind of checkbox for keeping
persistent xfer session in Background Transfers Queue List
until completed or cancelled ?

Real case :
Downloading software kits such .iso files takes time.
Having persistent sessions in Background Transfers Queue List
would permit you to pause you xfert, shut your laptop and
resume download the day after without being forced to wait
until it finish.

In case of unsable internet connections or proxy that
drops connection after a while, it would allow you to resume
your xferts without being forced each time to redefine
your downloads ... ;-)
