Are you able to connect with any other FTP client? Or even connect to the port anyhow? E.g. using PuTTY.

I have searched the forum for an answer to this error message (but couldn't find much at all):

A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.
Connection failed.

I am connecting two Windows (Win10 connecting to Win7) laptops using a crossover cable... the pings are successful
I have added an exception to the Windows firewall for Winscp.exe on both laptops

The original error I got was this :

Timeout detected. (control connection)
Connection failed.

But one of the threads in the forum suggested increasing the timeout - which I changed to 60 seconds..

Any ideas???
