Host does not exist

Hello,
I am new to winscp. I recently installed winscp version 3.7.6 on a windows 2000 desktop. Now on trying to connect to the remote server for the first time from the desktop, i get a "host does not exist error". i have checked the common error messages page. i checked my hostname, username and password several times so i am pretty sure i didn't type in the wrong domain. It just so happens that i can connect to the remote server using a windows 2000 laptop that has winscp version 3.6.8 installed by some fellow i replaced at my job. What could be wrong?
