Amazon S3 - Log in without "root" bucket permission

I am attempting to sign into an S3 bucket, but I do not have permission to the root of the S3 storage. I tried specifying the bucket that I have permission to access as the "Remote directory" under "Advanced Site Settings" but it still fails to log in. Looking at the log (attached), it looks like it is first trying to access the root of the bucket and then giving up. Can this be adjusted to skip opening "/" and go right to the specified folder in the advanced site settings?

Thanks,
