You can edit/open remote files directly from the WinSCP remote panel:

I do not understand your second question. Probably because I do not know Houdini.

How to open files and maintain relative file paths of the host

Hi!

I often work with Houdini. My question is twofold:

  1. When I'm on a home computer and I've used WinSCP to log in remotely to my host filesystem where I usually work, is there a way I can open the Houdini files from WinSCP without having to download the files to my computer and then open them locally?
  2. If I can use Houdini to edit the remote files, will the relative file paths from the Houdini file (e.g., usd files that are referenced in) be maintained?
