file rename

how can i rename a file with the following format: aaaa.9999.something.txt to aaaa.9999.txt ?

with script commands...

Just this one file?
mv aaaa.9999.something.txt aaaa.9999.txt

nope something is a varibile length string

You should be able to find a remote shell command for the task and invoke it with "call" command.
