FTP vSFTP network overhead

Is there a significant overhead when using SFTP as opposed to FTP?What is that overhead, approximately?

There's overhead indeed. But it is difficult to quantify it. It depend greatly on your connection speed too (greater speed, the larger packets are, the lower the overhead it). But even with slow speep, I guess it is not more than 10%.
