Text mode transfer of Binary files.

setup: WinSCP 4.0.2 with "Commander" interface on Windows XP SP3.

I have copied binary(xls, doc, zip, pdf) files from my PC, to a HP-Unix machine.
I have uploaded lots(1000s) of files, to the server using the 'Text' transfer mode.
Now that I am wanting to get the binary files back down, I am unable to read the files. :(

is it a lost cause? or is there some sort of script or process that I can run to fix the files?
