Limit number of files browsed

When browsing folders in Commander mode, when you go to a folder with thousands of files, it can take a long time to load the list into memory and the entire application becomes very sluggish.
Would like the ability to set a limit on the number of files it displays in the results of browsing a folder -e.g. limit to 5,000 files

With SFTP protocol, you can cancel directory reading with Esc key. With SCP this is not possible at all. With FTP this is not supported yet. What protocol are you using?
