New Login Dialog search

I'm not too happy about the search behaviour in the redesigned Login Dialog (I have WinScp 5.5.1, I guess it happened in 5.5 or sometime around this version).

I used to be able to press a letter multiple times and cycle through the list of saved sessions whose names started with this letter, e.g.

(Pressing S repeatedly)
Site one
↓
Site two
↓
Some other site

In the new search you can type anything and it will find the word anywhere in the session name, but as a result you can't cycle through session names with a single key.

(Pressing S and then Tab)
Not a very important site
↓
Another site
↓
One more site

Is it possible to get the old behaviour back?

I too would like to see an option to disable this, I can see how it's helpful for some people but for my needs it is more confusing and takes more time

At what version of WinScp was this implemented? I would like to go back to the version right before this feature was added. I use winscp daily and this is an annoying feature for me.

Please note that you should avoid using obsolete, potentially buggy and vulnerable, versions of WinSCP (and software in general).

I'm considering two variants:

- Holding down Shift key while typing would revert to previous behaviour.
- Capital letter in search string would match only capital letters in site names, so "Site" (or simply "S") will match "Site", but not "Not a very important site". While "site" (or "s") will match both.

Both variants sound good. I'd prefer the first one, but the second will do the job too.

That's great. I see it's implemented and scheduled for the next release, so we'll be able to use it soon.

I think it would be better to have a checkbox in the settings to just disable it, honestly I will never use this new search feature as it is just so odd for more me and causes more confusion than help.

Ive been hanging on hoping that this feature would become optional. I dont use capital letters in any of my session names and this feature just slows me down. I now just scroll through my list instead of typing a few characters.

I cant stand this new feature and am going back to 5.1.8 as of now

i would gladly pay to have this new sorting feature optional, i like the old way, simple and easy

I've been looking into other FTP programs because this feature was changed, please make a checkbox in the preferences to revert back to original behavior in versions 5.1.8 and before. thank you!

Since WinSCP 5.8 Incremental site search can be restricted to the beginning of site name only or expended to other site fields:
