Vendor requests we "turn off" shell access

We are receiving a "permission denied" error when trying to access a directory on a vendor site.

We can successfully access the SFTP site with our credentials, but can't set the default remote directory without receiving the error.

The vendor told me that I need to "turn off" shell access.

I have attached the log file.
