winscp login broken

Whenever I start WinSCP, the WinSCP window shows up, but there is nothing in it and it is not the right size either. It's just a small gray box with the title "WinSCP Login".

It has worked for me on this computer plenty of times with no trouble. I just tried to use it this evening and this started happening.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but the same thing keeps happening. Any help, please? Thanks

ok i'm stupid and didn't read the rules for posting ...

I'm using the latest version of WinSCP - that would be 3.6.8 I believe.

I'm also using Windows XP, and this problem has never happened before on any of the systems I use WinSCP on.

I have no error logs or step-by-step reproductions of the error because ... well ... I can't even get into the program, so there are no steps to reproduce (I guess, double-clicking on the icon is a step :D).

Anyway, thanks for any help

I have never heard about such problem with WinSCP.

Only one idea: Can you check if there are some translation files in WinSCP startup directory? If there are, please delete them (rather move them somewhere else). You can also grab the WinSCP3.exe file and put it to its own directory and try to launch it from there.

You may also try to delete the program settings from registry. If you do not know how to, you may override the registry settings by creating empty WinSCP3.ini file in WinSCP startup directory.

Let me know.

I wasn't sure what a translation file is, so I removed all the files in the WinSCP directory. That had no effect, the login screen still does not work.

I'm thinking that this is a registry problem, but I'm not sure what I need to delete from the registry. I tried creating an empty WinSCP3.ini file, and that had no effect - except for filling the file with settings, I can send the .ini file if it would help. I went into the registry, but all I knew to search for was "WinSCP". I removed as many matching entries as I could, and that didn't help either.

Here's a funny thing though. After trying things, I found if i press "Enter" at the login screen, it would connect to the last saved session, and the program would work fine from there. But if I go back to that login screen, it's still empty. After removing registry values and doing other things, I have since lost all my saved sessions, and that method doesn't work anymore. It was as if the interface were working right, it just wasn't displaying the contents of the window.

Any ideas?
