This seems like your server is offline. Consult the administrator of your server.

Network error: Connection timed out

I am having the same problem, though I can log in all day long with PuTTY and ZOC. Any ideas about what to look at would be appreciated.

Thanks, Dan

I found a problem with ZoneAlarm blocking my WinSCP traffic. Fixed that and I can now make contact with the remote server. Now I get a error stating:

In key mode I get the following failure.
  1. Searching for host
  2. Connecting to host
  3. Authenticating...
  4. Password requested
  5. Starting the session ...
Error Message:
Error skipping startup message. Your shell is probably incompatible with the application "BASH is recommended"
Connection has been unexpectedly closed. Server sent command exit status 2.
What is status 2 saying?

Still no good.

It looks like the session is established and then some data transmitted towrd the WRT54G (V3 hardware, Talsiman v1.0.5, client mode) causes it to close the session. This is repeatable from three different PCs, two on the WLAN side and one of the LAN side. Somebody have a clue, cause I sure don't!!! Could someone post what a successful log file of a key gen login looks like?

Here is a printout of the current WinSCP log file:

Connection Timed Out

BTW, I am also having this problem... this is not the log file that you are looking for. :?

I am able to log in to one of my domains but not the other. Both are on the same server. I don't get it...?

Hi Crystina,

Check and see if you have any firewalls between you and the server you are trying to access. AS you can see above, ZoneAlarm was causing a problem since I had PuTTY installed and then added WinSCP, ZoneAlarm must have thought something was wrong. As soon as I moved my Firewall protection from High to Medium, I could see the server, but I still can't connect. The traffic capture I did shows the remote server doing a reset of the connection at the TCP level, right after I finish sending the key????

What is status 2 saying?
It says nothing :-)
Have you tried SFTP instead of SCP?

Hi @Martin

I am trying to use WinSCP to access a WRT54G running Sveasoft's Talisman firmware which only supports SCP. Why would I be able to log in using PuTTY and not WinSCP, since you built it on PuTTY?

I don't understand why the SSHD (Dropbear) is closing the connection and I have been trying to get support from Sveasoft as well.

I will update you if they say anything worthwhile.

@DAK: You are able to login. But your server probably does not conform to requirements WinSCP have on server in SCP mode. Have you tried to force /bin/bash (or /bin/sh) shell on SCP tab of Login dialog?

Hi @martin

I tried it last night and it worked perfectly. The Sveasoft software uses Busybox and it includes ash. I forced the shell to /bin/ash/ and it works flawlessly now.

Thank you for the excellent program and the fine support.

im having the same problem

it was working fine tell the other day, i went out to eat with my mom, came back and i couldnt ssh into my server. i keep getting the same error and my server is fine, everything else works, i cant ssh to any servers, i tried contacting my isp, they said nothing was happening. is there something i can do in command prompt that will stop this? or could it be my router? i tried getting my router login from time warner and they said they couldnt give it to me, even tho they gave it to me when they installed the modem/router. then they hung up on me. DONT EVER USE TIME WARNER, THEY HAVE BEEN NOTHING BUT TRUOBLE!

Re: network error. Connection timed out????

@Guest: Ok this worked for me I hope it works for you. I always get this error message "Network error: Connection timed out"

I accidently found this out, first open ssh, then open up WinSCP, then your going to log in to your iPod or iPhone, after you hit the :Login button it should be looking for your iPod or iPhone, then hurry and go into your app store application on your iPod, this should cause your WinSCP to somehow start the connection good luck hope this works cause it works for me.

Ok, when connecting to WinSCP on your PC side, open App Store on your handheld... It will connect to your WinSCP instantly, then close app store and never go back

i downloaded Ping! for iphone for free, got it stuck at connecting,
then i bought the Ping! version but that didnt fix the problem,
i read that i had to enter my iphone via WINSCP to change some settings on Notifications since i have a jailbroken device,

BUT WINSCP STILL DOESNT RECOGNIZE THE DEVICE, WHAT SHOULD I PUT INTO WINSCP?
