Need help to use filter in GUI for synchronization.

I need help to use filter in GUI for synchronization, please.
I want to fetch to my local W7 computer, from a remote Linux server, only files that are changed after a certain date.
I had expected the remote filter to also affect the Synchronization checklist.
(5.8.4 RC, Commander interface, SFTP):
Commands > Synchronize...
Direction/Target: Local
Mode: Synchronize files
Synchronize options: Modification time Preview changes
Remote > Filter...
>2016-05-31
I also tried:
*.*>2016-05-31
No success with those, i.e. Synchronization checklist contains files stamped both before and after that date, checked ready to be transferred.
Is it at all possible in GUI?
(I assume it would be possible with scripting?)
