Trillian Integration Plugin

I was wondering if you had ever considered creating a plug in for your WSCP for Trillian. This would allow me to send messages to my account from a cell phone to a chat account on either MSN, Yahoo, AIM, Jabber, etc with a specific text that when recieved would execute a remote script or right-click SSH command against a predefined target.

I can talk to you more about this if you are interested. I am currently doing this and it is working it is just that I have to use Dego's plug in and it is not a direct tie into your app. I have to use your command line interface which is cool but I just thought that a direct plug in might give you that much more visibility since you can post it on the Trillian site which would be yet another form of advertising for you.

Cheers and Happy New Year to you.

May your new year be filled with Tons of Led Zeppelin... YEAH... I'm jamming on that now... 8)

Re: Trillian Integration Plugin

I'm not sure if I understand the point of this. Can you tell me more in detail, what exactly do you use WinSCP from Trillian for?

Re: Trillian Integration Plugin

WinSCP comes in handy as it relates to Trillian when I am on the road or simply away from any of my Production Support computers. If I get a call from my customer about a problem and it falls into one of my canned solution categories I can call Trillian from my Chat enabled phone over Yahoo, Aim, etc send a message with a specific support request value.

When my user account sends a message with a values of "BounceProdAppServer123", Trillian will scan the message for specific key values then will associate those values with a command line set and execute the command line.

This is where WinSCP comes in to play. I use the command line interface to run canned remote scripts against my Production, Development and Testing servers via scripts. Since Tillian can execute them and WinSCP is the mechanism for execution, that's how they tie in.

Now, the process for doing this using Trillian today is a little convaluted and requires multiple plug-ins for Trillian. If you could create a Trillian Plug in for WinSCP, I could take all of right click custom commands and tie them into Trillian instead of scripting them separately (requires to places to maintain). I would also like to see the plug-in support an email confirmation process that will send the remote command results back for review.

Currently I am administering several systems which keep me pretty tied to my computer. This new way of thinking about remote administration really helps to remove the shackles from my work and has saved my bacon several times so far. Who would have thought remote administration from a cell phone? This is so cool with tools like this.

Regards,

Tom

What do you guys/gals think?

Cool Thanks...

Also, I think the term for this approach of remote access is called Port Knocking (At least that is what I have heard). There is another guy out there trying to do this with Unix based Email where you send command filled emails to remote systems to get them to do the work without direct access to the system or network.

So, WinSCP users, what do you think about Port Knocking for WinSCP via a Trillian Plugin? :P
