Can't connect with WinSCP with VPN

Hi,

When I'm on my school's wifi I have no trouble accessing the computer's files through WinSCP, but when I try to access it through a VPN I get the error "Network error: Session timed out."

How can I get WinSCP to access the computer through the VPN?

I'm not super computer smart so if you could walk me through any trouble shooting that would be great.
