Encryption making filenames too long

Hi,
I am transferring a chunk of data that contains rather long filenames (up to about 150+ chars). When I transfer without encryption it works fine in nested folders but with encryption enabled the same file is too large. Is there any way to reduce the overhead for the file length with encryption enabled?
