At last for me cygdrive didnt make it. When I have created that directory, WinSCP says
Error changing directory to "cygdrive".
A directory called cygdriv works as normal.

Changing directory to "cygdrive".

I do not have OpenSSH available right now, so I'm only guessing. There is maybe difference between SCP/SFTP. For SCP the suggested approach should work (have you tried SCP?). With SFTP: try to use Open Directory feature (Ctrl+O) and type in /cydrive/c
