Thank you in advance.

WinSCP disconnected, reconnected, resumed downloading for a little while and then the same error occurred again and again. A file that was taking 15 minutes to download now took over 10 hours if I was lucky. The first number in the error message changed all the time, for e.g.:Received too large (2048009 B) SFTP packet. Max supported packet size is 1024000 B. ()
I tried the same files on the WinSCP GUI (Windows 10) and got the same error. I switched to the SCP protocol and could not authenticate. I tried a number of different suggestions that I saw on the internet and nothing worked. I moved from version WinSCP 5.19.6 to version 6.1 and got this same problem with the GUI and WinSCPnet. I switched computers and networks but WinSCP returned the same error. I then tried FileZilla GUI and this worked every time.Received too large (2184553 B) SFTP packet. Max supported packet size is 1024000 B.

echo
from my .bashrc
# .bashrc # Source global definitions if [ -f /etc/bashrc ]; then . /etc/bashrc fi # User specific aliases and functions #echo "loading .bashrc" export AWS_REGION="us-east-1"
echo
command, fixed the issue in my case.
echo
, no SFTP client could work with your server. This is described in the documentation of the error message:
sshd_config
) with a text editor. For example, you can use Nano:
sudo nano /etc/ssh/sshd_config
Subsystem sftp
. If the rule does not exist, you can add it. Add the maxpacket option with the desired maximum size. For example
Subsystem sftp /usr/libexec/openssh/sftp-server -u 1024000
sudo systemctl restart sshd

-u
switch of sftp-server
is for umask, not packet size limit:
Subsystem
directive. And the broken -u
umask switch has nothing to do with the fix. And it actually should be removed, as it might cause you troubles with permissions. It might (and probably does) have pretty nasty effects (like opening all your files to public).
