Make whole saved session row clickable

For good usability, please make whole saved session row clickable.

The clickable area would be bigger and I don't have to hover cursor over session names and reduce readability.

Example:

Re: Make whole saved session row clickable

I understand your concern. But please realize that session list is a tree. And this is a common way to render trees in Windows.

Is it? :)

A tree represents the hierarchical nature of a structure. Theres no hierarchical nature whatsoever (no children etc) in WinSCP saved sessions dialog. It's a basic list and its items could be easily rendered as "block-level" elements.

Take an example (left Categories menu) of HTML/CSS world. It's very good practice to use block-level links ( ul.menu li a { display: block; } ) in vertical menus. Inline links have different width of clickable area, there's no consistency and usability suffers.

Saved sessions are bookmarks. The width on Firefox' bookmarks (or IE Favorites) is equal and 100% of their container. Both are Windows applications.

I hope you will consider my suggestion. :)

Yes, it is. Try New folder button.

OK, didn't notice this feature, sorry.

But... WinSCP tree list could still be 100% wide. Microsoft's own products have such tree-lists:
  • Outlook 2007 folder list
  • Windows Live Messenger contact list
  • IE7 Favorites Center bookmarks list
  • ...
Those usecases are very similar.

I've checked WinAPI and it seems that either you can have the tree lines (as WinSCP has currently) or full row select. But not both.
If I change it as you want it, others will complain. So unless there is large consensus, I'm not going to change anything.

About what would they exactly complain?

Larger clickable area has no clear disadvantages, it makes the unused area usable.

The whole problem started when I wanted to use on-letter session names.
If a saved session name is for example "Z", the clickable area is only 11px wide.

Lack of tree lines.
