When using the terminal (Commands->Open Terminal), the terminal appears in a modal window. So once it is open, there is no access to the GUI. I.e. the terminal window must be closed and re-opened everytime one wants to look at the GUI window (e.g. to scroll down to find the name of a file, etc)

Why not make this window non-modal, so that it does not inactivate the GUI?

Why can't terminal commands be entered into the "Commands" toolbar box?

That's what command line panel is good for.
