I have this problem periodically with WinSCP 4.0.7, running on WinXP+SP3. I am logging in to a FreeBSD 7.0 box as root. Most of the time this works fine. WinSCP shows my root home folder by default after logging in. However occaisionally (perhaps once every 1-2 months, logging in once or more per day) when attempting to access the root folder /, WinSCP hangs, and after about a minute crashes, without even an error message. There is also no error message in the server logs to tell me what happened. The only cure is to reboot the server. After that, WinSCP works great again... until the next time.

Here's the server/prtocol information from WinSCP:

Session protocol = SSH-2
SSH implementation = OpenSSH_4.5p1 FreeBSD-20061110
Encryption algorithm = aes
Compression = No
File transfer protocol = SFTP-3
Server host key fingerprint
ssh-dss 1024 39:06:f0:cf:9e:7a:fc:69:d8:e9:ae:b2:cc:1f:7e:b9
Can change permissions = Yes
Can change owner/group = No
Can execute arbitrary command = No
Can create symlink/hardlink = Yes/No
Can lookup user groups = No
Can duplicate remote files = No
Can check available space = No
Can calculate file checksum = No
Native text (ASCII) mode transfers = No
Additional information
The server does not support any SFTP extension.

I have tried different protocols and encryption algorithms without any change. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Chris Cantwell
