turning on logging cause application to hang in Vista

I tried this previous to versions 4.1.9 but now tried it again on 4.2.3.

I turned on text logging, Level 1 and asked to display the console (?) window, changing it to the last 500 lines.

I got a couple entries immediately while the program was keeping the connection alive (I think) then I dragged a file from the upper right to the upper left window and the program froze "WinSCP (Not Responding)"

This ftp xfer does not hang like this when logging is off.

Also I have the program on my M:\ drive and was logging to C:\TEMP\filelogname.txt

Also if I look at task manager WinSCP is not doing any I/O reads -- none of the stats columns appear to be changing while it is locked up.
